WINNIPEG — Promising to bring back the tuition fee freeze, Steve Ashton captured almost two-thirds of youth delegates at the Manitoba Young New Democrats meeting at the University of Winnipeg Tuesday night.

Ashton took 68 delegates to 40 for Selinger. The victory helped narrow the delegate gap between the two candidates for Manitoba Premier to just 52 delegates, in favour of Selinger.

In his speech prior to the vote, Ashton promised to bring back the tuition fee freeze through his 2011 mandate.
Selinger promised quicker tuition tax rebates while students are still in school. He would also regulate fee increases, setting a ceiling of no more than five per cent per year.
