The storied century-old Royal Albert Arms Hotel won’t be serving alcohol in the foreseeable future.

Co-owner Daren Jorgenson made the announcement about his recent dealing with the Manitoba Liquor Control Commission on the business’s Facebook page this morning.

"I have chosen to turn in the MLCC License for RAAH as of today and leave the bar closed until certain things are dealt with," he writes. "I did NOT make this decision lightly but feel it is in the best interests of RAAH."

Jorgenson didn’t elaborate on Facebook, but in an emailed statement said he no longer wanted to own the building or operate the bar.

"I tried my best but RAAH is not where I wanted it to be, it is taking up too much of my time, and is frankly a soap opera out of control," he wrote.

The bar at the historic hotel/music venue, located in the Exchange District at 48 Albert St., reopened in March. It had been closed since May 2011, when a broken water line flooded the 100-year-old building’s basement.
