WINNIPEG — Winnipeg’s resale-homes market ended 2010 with a bang, setting a new December record for unit sales and dollar volume of sales.
WinnipegREALTORS said today that 653 properties were sold last month through its Multiple Listing Service for a combined total of $153.0 million. The unit-sales total was a five per cent improvement from December 2009’s 619, while the dollar-volume was up an impressive 22 per cent from the year-earlier tally of $125.3 million.
The strong finish helped set a new annual MLS dollar-volume record for Winnipeg of $2.73 billion. That’s an 11 per cent improvement from the previous record of $2.47 billion set just a year earlier.
It also nudged unit sales for the year slightly (0.5 per cent) ahead of 2009’s total — 12,236 compared to 12,182.
"Two thousand and ten will go down as a year with continued price pressure, thus driving up dollar volume," said outgoing WR president Claude Davis. "Sales still held their own despite affordability becoming more of an issue, especially at the lower end of the market spectrum."
