An exhausted firefighter cools down after battling a fire in a vacant house in the 600 block of Agnes Street early today.
"Fire was coming out of the back of the second storey when we arrived," District Chief Albert Sigfusson said, as he directed crews at the scene.
Firefighters used a chainsaw to cut through the roof in the back to expose the flames to water hoses.
Houses on the street are crowded together but the district chief said there is little danger the fire will jump to neighbouring homes.
At 7:10 a.m., firefighters were pulled out of the house, and instructed to go into a defensive mode from the exterior to ensure the blaze did not spread.
