Rabbi Uriel Malka, a former principal at Ohr HaTorah Day School in Winnipeg, was among those killed in the wildfires in Israel this week.
The Denver Post reported Malka's death in an online story.
Malka had been a teacher at the Denver Academy of Torah before he moved to Winnipeg.
The head of the Denver Academy told the Denver Post that Malka was on a bus that got caught in the fire. He was one of 40 on the bus who died. Most were prison guards returning to the prison to help prisoners.
Malka was a teacher in Denver a few years ago but moved to Ohr HaTorah Winnipeg. He returned to Israel in 2008 to work as a chaplain in the prison system.
Malka was in a bus heading for the prison when it was caught in the fire.
According to The Jewish Post and News online, Malka served in a parachute unit during the war with Lebanon in 2006.
He is survived by his wife Ortal, and five children.
