Darren Hicks, who is from Winnipeg but lives in Ottawa, was the only Manitoban to win one of the six awards.
Two other Manitobans were accepted into the orchestra: violinist M. Gillian Carrabré, who is from Brandon and lives in Montreal, and trumpet player Michelle Wylie, who is from Winnipeg and lives in Toronto.
Nearly 500 students aged 16 to 28 auditioned for 92 spots in the ensemble.
