Manitoba lowered its greenhouse gas emissions by two per cent between 2000 and 2010, a new provincial report says.
"This reduction is equivalent to taking 90,000 cars off the road every year," Conservation Minister Gord MacKintosh said.
He released the report today while announcing incentive grants at The Forks to four groups that are taking meaures to control emissions.
Two of the grants are going to projects at The Forks: one will see deep fryer oil at the site be used to power vehicles and equipment, including the zamboni skating ice maker; the second is for a composting unit that is converting all the food waste at The Forks and the University of Winnipeg into compost.
