The province, with support from RCMP, today seized approximately 89,550 contraband cigarettes from the Dakota Chundee Smoke Shop near Pipestone.
The seizure happened at about 12:20 p.m. today and was coordinated by the Manitoba Finance Special Investigations Unit.
The province said in a statement an ongoing investigation by the unit led to a search warrant being obtained and executed at the smoke shop.
The cigarettes seized are federally stamped under the Excise Act 2001 but are not marked or stamped for legal sale in Manitoba.
Charges are pending. The seized cigarettes will be put on display for the media on Wednesday.
