This morning, city council's property committee voted to strike a report from the agenda that called for public consultations on the redevelopment for golf courses.
Dozens of Winnipeg citizens say they're shocked and disappointed by a city committee's decision not to hear their input on financially-troubled golf courses.
This morning, council's property committee voted to strike a report from the agenda that called for public consultations on the redevelopment for golf courses.
City council's gallery was packed with people who showed up for the meeting, and about 20 people were set to speak on the matter.
Transcona Coun. Russ Wyatt said council's property committee does not have the authority to implement public consultations.
Recently, Couns. Jenny Gerbasi (Fort Rouge) and John Orlikow (River Heights) voted at community committee in favour of a thorough public consultation process on golf courses.
Wyatt said the golf course audit came through the city's alternate service delivery committee, and executive policy committee.
"We don't have the power to do anything," Wyatt said.
Angry citizens filed out of the gallery and many said it's sad that the city isn't listening to their views on the issue.
"It's a sad day when city government is so complicated citizens can't figure out how to make their views known," said Harry Peters, who lives near Windsor Park.
