String of beach communities suffer flood damage

Another string of beach communities suffered flood damage over the weekend, after Dauphin Lake burst its banks on Sunday.

On Saturday and Sunday, mandatory evacuation notices were issued for some homes in communities on the southern edge of the lake, including Crescent Cove Beach. Residents there report some cottages and year-round homes suffered major damage from the waves.

"At Ochre Beach, there’s people that their homes are just floating," said Joe Neill, who has a property near the lake. "It’s completely undermined at Ochre Beach, and Dauphin Beach is much the same. It’s really bad."

The lake rose after recent rain, residents said, and only has one major outlet, which drains into Lake Winnipegosis.
