WINNIPEG — Activist Nick Ternette concluded 40 years of addresses to city council by arguing against the purchase of a police helicopter.

Ternette, who announced his "retirement" from council in December, appeared before councillors at the beginning of today's monthly meeting and told them he respects the work they do but warned them they've become isolated from ordinary Winnipeggers.

Ternette, who lost parts of his legs last year, was thanked for his dedication by council speaker Harry Lazarenko.
