Winnipeg Jets winger Nikolaj Ehlers was absent from Wednesday's practice for what is being referred to by the NHL as a COVID Protocol-Related Absence (CPRA).
A CPRA doesn't necessarily mean the player in question has contracted COVID-19, but includes a wide range of possibilites — from displaying flu-like symptoms, to being a close contact of someone who has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. The Jets didn't disclose what exactly the issue was with Ehlers, but head coach Paul Maurice noted that he hadn't been ruled out of Thursday's season-opener against the Calgary Flames.
Beginning today, the NHL will be releasing names of any players who test positive for COVID-19. The NHL announced this week that 27 players had confirmed positive COVID-19 tests during training camps, which concluded Tuesday.
