The provincial government announced Monday that it will create a $1-million Green Impact Bond to help support green initiatives in the province.
The bond will support projects that encourage organic waste diversion programs, more commonly known as composting programs. In a press release, Conservation and Climate Minister Sarah Guillemard said action is required to help lower greenhouse gas emissions and to help prolong the lifespan of landfills across the province.
"We need to take steps to prolong the lifespan of our landfills and this Green Impact Bond provides a great opportunity to reduce organic waste while growing Manitoba’s green economy," said Guillemard.
Innovative NRG, a Manitoba waste-to-energy company, has been chosen as the Green Impact Bond service provider.
