Carson Lambos' hockey season is over.
The 18-year-old Winnipeg Ice defenceman, a top prospect for the 2021 NHL Draft, left the WHL's East Division hub in Regina March 17 to be meet with doctors at home in the Manitoba capital to deal with an unspecified medical condition.
On Friday, his father Steve said Carson would not play again this season but will rejoin his teammates in Regina as a spectator in the next few days.
The procedure, now scheduled for April 28, effectively ends any hope for Lambos to play for Canada at the world U18 championship in Dallas, April 26 to May 6. He is expected to make a full recovery.
"In a perfect world you would play (in the Regina hub) and go to the under-18s, right?" said Steve Lambos. "But health is the No. 1 priority."
