Owing to the "significant impact" of COVID-19 in an elementary school, middle school and high school in Gimli, Evergreen School Division is alerting families of temporary closures on Monday.
Superintendent Roza Gray issued a notice to parents Sunday about the April 19th closure of Sigurbjorg Stefansson Early School, Dr. George Johnson Middle School and Gimli High School.
The letter states there are confirmed cases at the three schools and a number of close contacts linked to these cases have been told to self-isolate for 14 days, from the date of exposure.
"Members of our community have tested positive for the virus sufficient for public health to determine that Gimli is a ‘cluster.’ We are concerned about our students and staff who are sick with COVID and continue to be diligent in our support of public health in contact tracing," Gray wrote.
Gray added the Monday closures will provide an opportunity for individuals awaiting test results to get their results, permit public health to complete its investigation, and allow time for both additional school cleaning and planning.
