A man is facing charges for allegedly stealing an ambulance at Health Sciences Centre, crashing it and attacking a man with an axe.
Police said a man approached an ambulance from the Brandon region that was parked in the loading area reserved for emergency vehicles at HSC at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. After asking the paramedics for help, he entered the vehicle through the rear doors, and the paramedics got out.
The ambulance drove off and crashed into a vehicle in a parking lot in the 1500 block of Wall Street. A suspect fled on foot, broke windows of homes in the 1300 block of Downing Street and stole an axe from one of the yards. He swung the weapon at a homeowner who confronted him, police said. Police arrested a suspect in the backyard of a home.
Jordan Nolan McDougall, 34, of Winnipeg, is charged with 10 offences and remains in custody.
