A Winnipeg police officer shot at a vehicle driven by a suspect that was accelerating at a police car Tuesday morning.
At about 11:30 a.m., traffic police tried to a stop a vehicle near Brazier Street and Johnson Avenue in West Elmwood. The driver refused to stop, instead driving slowly down the road.
General patrol officers joined the slow chase, before the suspect vehicle suddenly accelerated and drove directly at a squad car. At least one officer discharged their gun, hitting the vehicle, which then swerved into a nearby garage.
The suspect was not hurt and was arrested, but taken to hospital for "unrelated medical precautions," police say.
A 39-year-old Winnipeg man is facing two counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, flight while pursued by an officer and possessing property obtained by crime under $5,000.
