Two people have drowned in western Manitoba in recent days.
On July 15, just before 9 p.m., RCMP were called to Reston Lake southwest of Brandon, when a man swimming with family hadn't gotten out of the water with everyone else. The local fire department was searching in the water, while police searched the area.
Virden and Oak Lake fire and rescue crews also arrived to help. But after a few hours, the 39-year-old man from Canupawakpa was found underwater and pronounced dead.
On July 20 at about 4:30, RCMP were called to Kenton Dam at a local campground in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth, northwest of Brandon. A man had been swimming alone, and when people came back to the dam couldn't see but his vehicle and dog were still there.
RCMP searched on shore and by boat for several hours. The RCMP's underwater recovery team arrived and used a remote underwater vehicle. They found the 52-year-old from Kenton man, who was pronounced dead.
