A man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing of a 70-year-old woman on a transit bus.
Winnipeg police said on Tuesday that a 43-year-old man was arrested in the 1800 block of Portage Avenue on Monday at about 7:30 p.m., after an off-duty police officer recognized the suspect from photos police had distributed publicly.
Police previously said a woman was sitting in a bus eastbound on Portage Avenue on Sept. 12 at about 3:15 p.m., when she was stabbed.
The bus stopped at Portage Avenue at Fort Street and the suspect fled on foot.
The woman was taken to hospital in critical condition. She has since been upgraded to stable condition.
The suspect has been detained in custody.
