The City of Winnipeg will require all frontline employees working with vulnerable residents or in high risk settings, in direct contact with the public, to be fully vaccinated.
Staff must have both COVID-19 shots, plus two weeks to let the second dose set in, by Nov. 15. Employees must have their first dose by Sept. 30 and their follow up by Oct. 28.
People working in public safety and protection, recreational services, public transportation and customer service roles are affected.
The city will start collecting vaccination statuses next week. It's working with the province to erect mobile vaccination clinics for employees who aren't yet vaccinated.
In a news release, the city said it's "continuing to explore options" for staff who aren't vaccinated, including frequent testing or redeployment to a job that isn't public-facing.
More details will come out once the city learns how many employees aren't vaccinated.
