A man accused of stealing merchandise from a Portage Avenue grocery store allegedly pointed a handgun at staff who followed him from the shop.
At about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Winnipeg police went to the store on the 900 block of Portage Avenue after a report of a robbery with a firearm. Staff said a man had fled after pointing a gun.
A traffic division supervisor spotted a man near Minto Street and Wolever Avenue, where he was arrested. Police found the stolen goods, but didn't find the reported gun.
Daniel Edward Simpson, 29 of Winnipeg, is charged with armed robbery with a firearm, a slew of weapons offences, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, two warrants for theft and a warrant for robbery and failing to comply with a release order.
