Interlake-Eastern Regional Health Authority chief executive officer David Matear has been appointed co-commander of the province’s COVID-19 incident command.
Matear will replace Shared Health chief nursing officer Lanette Siragusa, who leaves her post for a position at the University of Manitoba at the end of the month.
In a statement, Health Minister Audrey Gordon said Matear brings a wealth of incident command structure and operational knowledge to the role as COVID-19 continues to put intense pressure on the healthcare system.
Matear was senior operating director in Fort McMurray, Alta. and incident commander for Alberta Health Services during the Fort McMurray fires in 2016.
Matear will serve as co-incident commander with chief provicial public health officer Dr. Brent Roussin.
