Red River Co-op

has announced three new additions to its board of directors: Ward Weisensel, Anna Maria Magnifico, and Donna Zwarich. The new board members join officers Gordon Machej, president; Marlene Boersch, secretary; and fellow directors Marcel Daeninck and Nicole Woelke.

 

Elmwood Cemetary

has elected Richard Schwartz as the new chairman of its board of directors. Former chairman Jim Baker is now the executive director reporting to the chairman and to board members Bruce Birchard, Ron Hector, Holly Cowan, Deb Schwartz and Alison Mendres. The non-profit Elmwood Cemetery is one of the oldest non-denomenational cemeteries in Manitoba, dating back to 1902.

 

Friends of the Winnipeg Public Library Inc. (FWPL)

is pleased to announce its 2016/17 board of directors: Kathy Blight, president; Billie Stewart, past president; Brenda Greenberg, treasurer; and Heather Graham, secretary. Directors are Rorie Bruce, Janice Chance, Trudy Hansford, Luba Harasym, and Bill Zuk. Ed Cuddy is library liaison. FWPL raises funds to support special library projects and programs at Winnipeg Public Library. Major fundraisers are the Best of Friends Gift Shop in the lobby of the Millennium Library, the annual fall used-book sale and the annual Books & Brunch in the spring.

 

Nostalgia Broadcasting

has unveiled its board of directors for 2016-17. Board members are: Tom Dercola, president; Dorothy Dobbie, vice-president;  Bill Perlmutter, secretary-treasurer; Bill Stewart, general manager; Sheila Down, meeting secretary; Tullio D’Ottavio; Adam Glynn; Gil Forrest; Stuart Murray; Grant Patterson; Jim Pappas; Ernie Nairn; Wayne Rogers; RoseAnna Schick; Lyle Smordin; Cathy Stephens; and Larry Updike. Nostalgia Broadcasting Inc. is a non-profit community radio station broadcasting at 93.7 FM and is the official radio station of the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

 

The Manitoba Women’s Institute

has announced its 2016-2017 provincial board. Members are: Ann Mandziuk, president; Denise Joss, president-elect; Donna Young, past president; Rose Bodz, eastern regional representative; Peggy Bradshaw, northwest regional representative; Arenda Van Der Deen, southwest A regional representative; Audrey Clark, southwest B regional representative; Valerie Watt, Winnipeg-Interlake regional representative; Maren Mueller, director-at-large; Heather Klassen, director-at-large; Dr. Joyce Slater, University of Manitoba faculty representative; Pat Orsak, department of agriculture representative; Liz Chongva, FWIC executive officer; and Debbie Melosky, Manitoba government-appointed member.

 

AWARDS

The Transport Institute, University of Manitoba

was the runner-up for best paper out of a field of 63 at the recent Canadian Transportation Research Forum. The institute’s winning paper is entitled: Sustainable Transportation: Airships Versus Jet Airplanes.
