TORONTO – Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Holiday shopping

It’s Cyber Monday this week as retailers look to entice holiday shoppers looking for deals online. How digital sales fare combined with Black Friday last week could offer some insight into how consumers are feeling heading into the end of the year. The key retail season comes as Canadian shoppers continue to face inflation and the fallout of U.S. tariffs.

Bank earnings

Canada’s big banks will report their fourth-quarter results this week, starting with Scotiabank on Tuesday, followed by Royal Bank of Canada and National Bank of Canada on Wednesday. Bank of Montreal, CIBC and Toronto-Dominion Bank are expected to report their results on Thursday.

HBC auction

Hudson’s Bay has scheduled a Wednesday auction to find a new home for the royal charter that formed the company in 1670. The Thomson and Weston families have agreed to get the bidding started at $18 million. If successful, they’ll donate the artifact to the Archives of Manitoba, the Manitoba Museum, the Canadian Museum of History, and the Royal Ontario Museum.

BRP results

BRP Inc. will report its third-quarter results and hold a conference call with analysts on Thursday before the start of trading. The financial report comes after the maker of Ski-Doos and Sea-Doos released a new strategic plan in October.

Jobs numbers

Statistics Canada will release its latest look at the job market on Friday when it publishes its labour force survey for November. The report is the last major economic data point before the Bank of Canada makes its final interest rate decision of the year on Dec. 10.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Nov. 30, 2025.
