AN alarming number of Manitoba homeowners would be in hot water if they were hit with a sudden increase in monthly mortgage payments, according to the results of a new poll.
A Winnipeg Free Press/Jory Capital poll of 1,000 Manitobans conducted by Probe Research found that 82 per cent of the respondents who have a residential mortgage said it would be a "problem" for their household if mortgage rates were to increase by 1.5 per cent. That’s the size of increase many economists were forecasting earlier this year when it looked like the global economy was rebounding from last year’s recession.
