SUMMARY:Spring School Series - Walking Tours
DESCRIPTION:This spring\, Turtle Tours is inviting school groups to The Forks for an Indigenous-led walking tour rooted in place\, story\, and connection. \nInstead of learning from a textbook\, students walk the land where thousands of years of history happened. SUMMARY:Winnipeg Mandolin Orchestra -- Across Time and Cultures
DESCRIPTION:We all know the mandolin – you can hear it at almost any folk festival in the world. It was born in Italy at the end of the 17th century and became a symbol of romantic serenades. In the 20th century\, it crossed the ocean to become part of American musical culture where it found new energy\, and it continues to explore new sounds and styles. But have you ever heard a mandolin orchestra? It is truly something special. Mandolins\, mandolas\, and mandocellos combine with woodwinds and accordions to create a bright and unusual sound mosaic. \nOn May 9\, 2026\, the Winnipeg Mandolin Orchestra\, under the direction of Viacheslav Prysiazhniuk\, invites you “Across Time and Cultures”\, a concert journey. From Mediterranean harbours to Scandinavian fjords. From Asian folk melodies to contemporary Canadian folk and jazz rhythms. Right here\, in the heart of Canada\, music from different eras and continents will meet in one shared orchestral sound.

SUMMARY:Mozart & Shostakovich
DESCRIPTION:The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra ends the 2025/26 season with the last major instrumental work composed by the gone-too-soon Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Written at the height of his compositional prowess (which is really saying something)\, the Clarinet Concerto in A Major is a work that is idiomatic and idiosyncratic. Guest artist Boris Allakhverdyan\, Principal Clarinet of the Los Angeles Philharmonic\, draws out the warm character of the clarinet while also exploring some of the work’s darker elements. \nTrapped in a totalitarian regime\, Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 takes listeners from bleakness to bliss. Composed during the Stalin purges\, is the Shostakovich triumph appeasement or sincerity? Regardless\, the enormity of the symphony is among the most unforgettable experiences in classical music. \nThe final concerts of the season begin with Mahler’s Blumine\, a heartfelt\, sentimental\, and beautiful composition.
