SUMMARY:2026 Never Alone Cancer Foundation Dragon Boat Festivals
DESCRIPTION:Never Alone Cancer Foundation is proud to partner with the Manitoba Paddling Association to host one of the summer’s biggest events: The Dragon Boat Festivals! This year’s festival will be held at The Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre\, 80 Churchill Drive. Dragon boating is one of Winnipeg’s most popular summer events\, and we couldn’t be more excited to be a part of it! \nThis event is a FUNdraiser for the Never Alone Cancer Foundation\, a Winnipeg-based not-for-profit charity dedicated to improving the lives of people affected by cancer in our community. Many people do not realize the financial hardships that accompany a cancer diagnosis. Without benefits\, a cancer diagnosis leaves many unable to work or even care for their children because they are too ill. No one should ever have to choose between groceries and the cost of gas and parking to get to their treatments.

SUMMARY:Birds Through an Opera Glass: Bird Watching in the Victorian Era
DESCRIPTION:Join retired endangered species biologist William Watkins for this exciting lecture on the history of bird watching! \nBird studies during the Victorian era evolved from collecting eggs\, feathers and study skins to an interest in the behaviour of living birds. The invention of portable binoculars in 1825 helped transition this interest towards a conservation-minded pastime and the rise of natural history societies. Excluded from male dominated academia\, many Victorian women popularized watching and recording the habits of birds and contributed to scientific publications. By the late 19th century\, opposition to the wholesale slaughter of birds for their feathers to adorn hats\, led to the creation of The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Audubon Society\, both of which still exist today.
