AN 18-year-old man is facing numerous charges in connection with a brief chase involving Winnipeg police Saturday morning.

Around 8:15 a.m., officers tried to make a traffic stop in the area of Crystal Avenue and St. Anne’s Road.

The vehicle did not pull over. After a quick computer check on the vehicle, officers found it had been reported stolen the day before.

Police said officers gave chase but aborted the pursuit because of the suspect’s unsafe driving.

Minutes later, the driver lost control of the stolen vehicle and struck a tree in the 100 block of Crystal Avenue and allegedly took off on foot. After a brief struggle in which officers fired a Taser, he was arrested.

The man suffered unspecified injuries as a result of the crash and was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

Members of the central traffic unit are investigating the incident.
