NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has had to pull out of tonight’s Rady JCC Sports Dinner at the RBC Convention Centre due to a lower-body injury.
A kidney stone attack is nothing life threatening but it’s enough to keep him from getting on a plane to fly from New York to Winnipeg today.
Deputy commissioner Bill Daly has agreed to take his place and is currently on his way to the airport.
The original format was scheduled to be a one-on-one conversation between Bettman and TSN’s Winnipeg bureau chief Sara Orlesky.
Instead, Orlesky will chair a roundtable discussion on the state of hockey between Daly, Mark Chipman, Paul Maurice and Kevin Cheveldayoff, the co-owner, head coach and general manager, respectively, of the Winnipeg Jets.
This is the 43rd annual Rady JCC Sports Dinner. Previous speakers include basketball legend Magic Johnson, future NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning, New York Yankees great Mickey Mantle and controversial hockey commentator and star of Hockey Night In Canada’s Coach’s Corner, Don Cherry.
