With Def Leppard playing the MTS Centre Wednesday night, Winnipeg’s hair-metal loving mayor decided to do a special tribute to the band at city council.
Mayor Brian Bowman opened the meeting with a rousing speech, quoting several song titles from the band’s repertoire.
"I am going to do my opening statements on a lighter note," he told council, before apologizing for his love of 80s rock music, which inspired the speech.
"I know at the floor of council, at times there can be some Hysteria as we make Promises that can be accused of Fooling people, Bringing on the Heartbreak. But it does not matter what kind of political Animal you may be, each councillor has the opportunity to propel your ideas for Winnipeg, to Rocket your ambition for your community. So we can say we Rock the Ages and we take a Photograph of our growing city," he said, before welcoming the band to Winnipeg
"They are going to rock it tonight at the MTS Centre."
After the meeting, Bowman said he wanted to bring a little rock and roll to city hall to welcome the band to Winnipeg. Earlier in the day, Bowman said he didn't have tickets to the show, but Wednesday evening he tweeted that he was going, and then tweeted a photo with the band.
