St. Vital schools consider trading buildings to accommodate student numbers

Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 4/3/2014 (1262 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.

Tomorrow may be NHL trade deadline day, but Louis Riel School Division is also considering a blockbuster trade.

Hastings School and French immersion École Marie-Anne-Gaboury share adjoining land in north St. Vital, generally serving students north of Bishop Grandin Boulevard and west of St. Mary’s Road.

The trouble is, Hastings has 270 students in a building made for 565 kids, and Gaboury has 358 crammed into a school built for 340. Hastings is projected to remain stable, while Gaboury is expected to grow considerably.

There are all sorts of solutions available, but the division says the easiest may just be a simple swap of buildings.

Parents can take part in the consultation process and get all the details here.
