Two Winnipeg paramedics have won a national award of excellence.
Winnipeg Fire Paramedics Service members Ryan Sneath and Karen Martin were awarded the prestigious Emergency Medical Services Chiefs of Canada’s Award of Excellence at the association’s conference in Vancouver recently.
The award was to acknowledge the work of Sneath and Martin in establishing the Winnipeg Fire paramedic Service’s Main Street Project Community Paramedic Program.
The program posts an advanced-care paramedic in the Main Street Project to provide immediate health care to the shelter’s clients.
"This team has... demonstrated the true meaning of patient advocacy," said Christian Schmidt,. acting deputy chief, operations, of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.
"Their work has been truly innovative in establishing paramedic practice in a non-traditional delivery model and is most worthy of the national recognition."
