Folklorama on Trudeau's agenda

Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 12/8/2014 (1104 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.

THE Israel pavilion at Folklorama is expecting a special guest on Friday -- Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau.

Folklorama prides itself on being apolitical, but during a federal election campaign, it's a prime opportunity for candidates to meet and greet voters and press the flesh.

Israel pavilion organizers at the Rady Jewish Community Centre said they expect Trudeau to drop by Friday.

The Liberal party hasn't confirmed when and where Trudeau will be campaigning in Winnipeg and which Folklorama pavilions he may visit.

He'd be hard pressed to match the pavilion-hopping zeal of his predecessor.

In 2010, then-Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff visited five Folklorama pavilions in one campaign swing through Winnipeg on his Liberal Express bus tour.

Talk of the prime minister paying a visit to the Israel pavilion was laid to rest by his staff in Ottawa this week, who said Stephen Harper has no plans to be in Winnipeg for the last week of Folklorama.

NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair won't be partaking in Winnipeg's multicultural festival, either.

A spokeswoman for the leader of the Opposition said he has no plans to visit Winnipeg again this summer.

Mulcair was in Manitoba to show support for flood-fighting efforts in July.
