ANOTHER 109 people from Tataskweyak Cree Nation were moved to Winnipeg Thursday, bringing to 176 the number of people who have left the Split Lake community because of smoke from a forest fire.
A provincial official said the Manitoba Association of Native Fire Fighters and Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada are handling the situation, and are telling the province that removing people from the community is a precaution due to smoke.
The community of close to 2,400 people is 772 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
