Some of the outstanding individuals and teams that might be named Tuesday when the Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association unveils its teams and athletes of the decade and of the past 50 years:
Tammy Mahon, Treherne Collegiate
Former professional volleyball player was 1998 A girls basketball player of the year, provincial champion in volleyball and basketball, still holds high-jump records.
Angie Straub (Johnson), Gordon Bell High School and John Taylor Collegiate
Olympic basketball player in 1976, dominated girls basketball in the early 1970s.
Brian MacLaren, Vincent Massey Collegiate
Olympic relay runner in 1968 and 1972, was provincial champion in 100, 200, and 4x100 relay. Taught and coached at Murdoch MacKay Collegiate.
Dale Bradshaw, Garden City Collegiate and Dakota Collegiate
The Dean began coaching high school basketball in the early '70s and won five provincials in a 40-year career. Close to 100 of his former players became coaches.
Garth Pischke, Silver Heights Collegiate
Multi-sport high school athlete won three national volleyball championships as a player, went to 1976 and 1984 Olympics, coached national men's volleyball team, won nine nationals as volleyball coach of University of Manitoba men.
Keith Sanheim, Springfield Collegiate
Won four national volleyball championships with University of Manitoba, played 13 years on national team.
Jim Hoger, Treherne Collegiate
Coached girls basketball for 27 years in the 1980s, '90s and 2000s, won six A provincials, provincial coach of the year six times.
Lynda Chorley (née Kidd), Hamiota Collegiate
Led her basketball team to the provincial championship in 1961 and '64, finalists in 1962 and '63. Set numerous discus and shot-put records.
Warren Wildcats varsity girls basketball
Won five consecutive provincial high school varsity girls basketball championships in the '90s, set record of 180-10.
Glenboro School girls basketball
Provincial champions 2004-07 and 2009. Provincial finalists in 2003 and placed third in 2001, 2008 and 2010.
Hamiota girls basketball team
Reached provincial finals four straight years, winning in 1961 and 1964, when all schools were in one category regardless of enrolment.
Lord Selkirk Royals boys volleyball team
Dominated 1980s and '90s volleyball, winning one B championship and five AAAA titles. Coached by Jim Schreyer, went 279-31.
Lord Selkirk Royals girls volleyball team
Four consecutive AAAA championships 2004-05 through 2007-08. Coached by Rick Scott, 276-23 record.
Miles Macdonell Collegiate girls curling team
Three straight provincial championships 1970 through 1972, rink of Linda Walker, Janet Walker, Cathy Pidzarko, and skip Chris Pidzarko.
Morris Collegiate boys curling team
Won 1997-98 provincials and went on to win the junior men's provincial, Canadian and world curling championships, rink of skip Dave Hamblin, Rob Stupnisky, Brad Hamblin, and Rob Yerama.
Nellie McClung Collegiate girls volleyball
Three consecutive A girls provincial volleyball championships 2008 through 2010.
St. Paul's High School hockey team
Reached provincial boys championships every year since 2000, won Winnipeg title seven times, provincials three times, provincial finalists four times, record of 365-45-16.
