THE first woman of First Nations status took her seat in the Manitoba legislature Monday.
The Pas NDP MLA Amanda Lathlin was sworn in before question period and the continuation of the debate on the tabling of the budget last week. Lathlin won the seat in an April 21 byelection.
Lathlin said she looked forward to her new job and walking in the footsteps of her late father, Oscar Lathlin, who was the MLA for the northern constituency for almost two decades. He died in November 2008.
Amanda Lathlin has served as the University College of the North's representative workforce co-ordinator.
