Ruth Bonneville / Winnipeg Free Press Members of the Winnipeg Police Services Arson Strike Force investigate the cause of a fire early Sunday morning at Liquid Lounge, 744 Corydon Ave.
Firefighters responded to an alarm at Liquid Lounge, at 774 Corydon Ave., just after 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
The fire started in the common area of the bar and grill where customers sit.
There were no injuries.
Damage was estimated at $175,000 to the building and $75,000 to the contents.
The restaurant's website says that it was scheduled to be open until 4 a.m. on Sunday. It has two rooms and can hold up to 100 people, and features an 'intimate' dance floor and a DJ. It had been scheduled to open at 6 p.m. Sunday.
The fire department could not comment on whether anyone was in the restaurant when fire crews arrived.
Liquid Lounge management did not respond Sunday night to voice mail and email messages.
The lounge is located near the corner of Arbuthnot Street at Corydon Avenue, and it is part of a small strip mall that also includes a pottery gallery and a pack-and-post parcel outlet.
There is a 7-11 located across the street from Liquid Lounge, but staff there said that they are not allowed to talk to the media without the permission of the company's head office.
