A 41-year-old motorist has died after crashing into a ditch near Portage la Prairie without a fastened seatbelt, RCMP say.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 1, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle in the ditch off Hwy. 305, near Road 62 North.
An investigation concluded a 41-year-old woman from Long Plain First Nation was travelling southbound on Hwy. 305 when she left the roadway and struck the side of a driveway, causing the vehicle to become airborne.
The woman, the lone occupant, was found not to be wearing a seatbelt. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
RCMP and a forensic collision reconstructionist continue to investigate.
