CHILL out, Dudes and Bettys; Hollister is about to open its doors -- just not as soon as some thought it would.
The California-based casual and surfwear retailer will cut the ribbon on its Polo Park Shopping Centre outlet on Saturday, says Deborah Green, general manager of the mall.
Unfortunately, a significant number of shoppers, including a number from out of town, read a posting on a local tourism website that said the 6,000-square-foot store was opening Thursday.
"They are opening Saturday for sure," Green said. "Somebody got a date somewhere and said it was opening on the 16th. Hollister had two greeters in the mall (Thursday) explaining the situation and saying they were sorry."
Some shoppers reportedly showed up from Gimli and Kenora.
When the first customers walk through the door this weekend, Green said they'll be blown away.
"I just did a walk-through and it's merchandised perfectly. Every edge of every shirt was positioned just so and everything was perfectly aligned. They're very much perfectionists in their merchandising and their branding," she said.
Hollister's target market isn't men and women, it's "Dudes" and "Bettys" in the 15-to-35 age group. It has more than 600 stores around the world, including seven across Canada. The Polo Park location is its first one in Winnipeg.
