A woman hit by a transit bus during rush hour Friday evening had lost ground in hospital by morning, Winnipeg police reported Saturday.
The woman, 25, is now listed in critical condition with severe upper body injuries. Police say she was hit by a Winnipeg Transit bus about 5 p.m. on Portage Avenue, between Lipton Street and Banning Street. The bus was heading west on Portage.
The woman was struck in the bus diamond lane as she walked across Portage to the north side, police say. She was initially taken to hospital in stable condition.
Shortly after 5 p.m., Friday, a figure could be seen lying on the street in front of a stationary bus on Portage, with a crowd gathered around and passengers waiting on the sidewalk.
The force of the impact was so strong it shattered the bottom half of the driver's window on the bus. Police were seen gathering evidence late into the night, with investigators still on the scene taking photographs at 11 p.m.
Police are continuing to investigate.
