Two baby llamas are in need of names, and the Assiniboine Park Zoo is looking to the public to help it decide.
The pair of llamas at the Winnipeg attraction gave birth this month. One, named Latte, had a brown female cria (baby llama) on May 1; another, named Chai, had a white-and-brown female cria May 8.
There is a running theme in animal names. Latte’s first-born was named Earl Grey last year. The zoo wants to keep a coffee and tea theme, and has provided a list of possible names to choose from.
Voters can pick two of their favourites of the following: Pekoe, Hazelnut, Honey, Cinnamon, Cocoa Bean, Jasmine and Liberty (a play on phonetics).
"For now, they are busy exploring, playing and learning," Grant Furniss, senior director of animal care and conservation at the zoo, said in a release Friday.
"They are a wonderful and welcome addition to Aunt Sally’s Farm, and it will be fun to watch them grow."
To vote, visit the link provided at the Assiniboine Park Zoo’s social media platforms. Voting closes Monday. The winning names will be announced Tuesday.
The zoo currently remains closed to the public due to COVID-19 pandemic regulations.
