Our government is dedicated to rebuilding health care for all in Manitoba, including folks in rural communities. We are actively investing in rural health care so Manitobans can get the health care they need, when they need it.

On July 16, the Premier and I announced that our government is adding 10 additional medical training seats in Brandon. This means that each year, there are 20 future doctors in training in Brandon. We want to make sure that these future doctors have access to top of the line science facilities, learning spaces, and all the necessary equipment. Which is why our government is also renovating the Brodie Science Centre at Brandon University and investing in the Brandon Regional Health Centre Library.

We are rebuilding health care in Manitoba by training the next generation of doctors. When doctors are trained in rural communities, they are more likely to stay and practice in those communities. After years of rural health needs being ignored by the PCs, this is a huge step in strengthening the health system and staffing those communities.

To all the future doctors wanting to train in Manitoba, I want to thank you for choosing our province. You are a part of rebuilding our health care. I wish you all the best in your training, and I encourage you to build your careers here in Manitoba.

Earlier this year, I was proud to announce that we’ve worked with our partners at Prairie Mountain Health, the town of Melita, and their community advocates to enhance primary care services. They are gaining three front-line staff positions, an additional nurse practitioner, and extended primary care hours at the Melita Health Centre. Improving primary care means folks have access to preventive care, health management, personalized health care, mental health and addiction support. Primary care services also play a huge role in keeping the strain off emergency services.

On July 23, I had the privilege to visit the Melita Health Centre to meet with one of the current and the new nurse practitioner. Nurse practitioners play a crucial role in improving access, quality, and continuity of care. I can’t thank them enough for their dedication and work. You are the reason health care is improving across Manitoba. Thank you. The way we fix healthcare and make it stronger for the long term is by working together and our government is committed to eliminating health care barriers felt by families and seniors in rural Manitoba.

Our government will continue to improve health care in Manitoba to ensure all folks have access to the care they deserve.
