The Elmwood High School Legacy Fund continues to grow.

Linda Boughton, a founding member of the fund, said she was inspired to help start things up as an alumnus of the school.

The fund gave out its first scholarships in 2009, awarding $700 to three students, after having some residual cash left over from the school’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

This year, Boughton said the fund plans to give out three $1,000 scholarships.

She added the fund is working to set itself up for the future, as it is holding its inaugural meeting at the school on May 30 at 6:30 p.m. All those who donate at least $10 will be eligible to vote.

"It will ensure that the fund continues in perpetuity," she said. "As well, we’ll ensure that the fund is managed correctly after our initial committee is gone."

At the same time, the plaque will be rededicated to recognize donors who have contributed in the past year.

"Our fund has grown from about $16,000 to well over $100,000 now," said Boughton. "Donors who gave more money each year can change their place on the plaque. If you’re a bronze donor for $100 and you decide you’re going to donate $400 more, you’re now a gold donor."

Boughton said Elmwood band students will also be playing at the school the evening of the meeting, which she said will help give the evening a "gala" feel.
