Be clean and Buy-A-Bean

Hey there, time traveller!

Launched as a dream in 1998, the Chamois Car Wash and Detail Centre’s love for a sparkling clean vehicle, and eagerness to support their community, comes shining through every time a vehicle enters their bays.
“We believe everyone deserves a high-quality car wash experience,” says Dave Watson, owner of the Chamois. “We are committed to having the highest safety and wash standards, as well as ensuring your vehicle always receives the best care possible.”
Dave notes that the Chamois’ vision — “To be Canada’s leading car-care specialists” — is mirrored by the Kidney Foundation’s vision to support those affected by kidney disease locally and across Canada.

“Our son, Ryan, was diagnosed with kidney disease, and fortunately is doing well thanks to a kidney transplant,” Dave says. “We wanted to show our support for those affected by kidney disease, so with the help of the Kidney Foundation, we host the Buy-A-Bean campaign.”
For 16 years, the Watsons have been cleaning up for the cause by hanging the colourful paper beans purchased at their three locations — 1285 St. James St., 850 Waverley St., and 85 Reenders Dr. The generous support from their customers has raised over $160,000 for those affected by kidney disease in our province.
“This financial support is so timely!” says Val Dunphy, executive director of the Kidney Foundation.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the demand for our programs is unprecedented. The short-term emergent financial assistance program, in particular, has seen great demand — in March we awarded 82 per cent more grants than in March 2019. These requests are for basic needs: medications, transportation to and from dialysis or groceries.”
COVID-19 has hit us all hard but especially the poorest of the poor and those struggling on dialysis. Fundraising hasn’t been possible during the pandemic but thanks to businesses such as the Chamois and their loyal customers, the Kidney Foundation continues to address financial burdens for those affected by kidney disease in Manitoba.
Stop by the Chamois Car Wash and Detail Centre in July. Your vehicle will be disinfected, meticulously shined, and you’ll have the opportunity to support the one in nine Manitobans affected by kidney disease.

If you want to get involved, and give back within your community, “it’s time to do it,” Dave says. “It might seem like a big commitment at first, but if you’re willing to put in the effort, it’s very rewarding.”
