Plenty to celebrate, be proud of this June

Hey there, time traveller!
This article was published 07/06/2021 (725 days ago), so information in it may no longer be current.
June has officially begun, which means summer is right around the corner.
In addition to summer and warm weather, June honours many individuals but this year’s celebrations for Father’s Day may be different from those of the past. This year, families will honor dads through phone calls, FaceTime chats, other virtual arrangements or through the many memories they have of their fathers.
I would like to wish all fathers a Happy Father’s Day.

This year’s Crohn’s and Colitis Gutsy Walk was held on June 6, 2021. The Gutsy Walk is Canada-wide and is the largest fundraising event for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada every year. Winnipeg is proud that Nathaniel Brown and his father, Kyle, were this year’s honorary co-chairs of the Gutsy Walk for Manitoba.
The Browns are River Park South residents and Nathaniel, who is 10 years old, has been raising awareness of Crohn’s and Colitis for over four years. He began by selling lemonade in front of his home, then increased his fundraising targets and began doing laps in his cul-de-sac. Last year Nathaniel walked over 50 laps and raised over $4,000 in support of Crohn’s and Colitis. To support Nathaniel’s team, Farter Knows Best, visit gutsywalk.ca

I am pleased to highlight a wonderful new organization that is being established in the St. Vital and St. Boniface areas. The St. Vital/St. Boniface Youth Hub is a youth-focused site that will provide services to individuals aged 12 to 29 years, while prioritizing a single, easy-to-access location offering young people and their families support, outreach, programming, and resources. The HUB will partner with many organizations, including Youville Centre de Sante, Aulneau Renewal Centre, Sara Riel and Teen Stop Jeunesse, all of which are some of the early partners in the community outreach programming.
HUB community partners are looking forward to the fall when they are officially up and running and people can fully utilize their services.

June recognizes the hard work of students of all ages as they graduate. This year, the ceremony platform may be different but no less significant. Graduation honours all the hard work and achievements of everyone as they end one chapter in their life and move into the next chapter.
I encourage you all to look at how far you have come and celebrate the momentous milestone you’ve achieved.
Congratulations to all 2021 graduates. I wish you all the best as you go forth into the world and pursue your dreams!
