Regular programming resumes in LRSD
Hey there, time traveller!

In the Louis Riel School Division, we are finally seeing a resurgence of regular programming, including in music and band.
As a result, many schools have arranged to have spring concerts and musicals. For example, Windsor Park Collegiate is presenting Mamma Mia! from May 10 to 12 and Nelson McIntyre Collegiate will present High School Musical on May 26 and 27. More information about what is happening in schools throughout LRSD is available on each of our school’s websites and their social media channels.
We also highlight what is happening in our schools at each of the public meetings of the LRSD board of trustees. Members of the public can attend these meetings virtually through Zoom.
Recent focuses of these meetings have included the proposed reconfigurations of schools and the ongoing work in diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism and Indigenous education.
Schools in the southeast quadrant of our school division have faced enrolment pressures and demographic changes. We continue to receive feedback from staff, parents, guardians and students about the proposed solutions and have a number of upcoming focused community conversations on this topic. We are hoping that funding for a new school in Sage Creek is soon announced by the Manitoba government.
Students, teachers, divisional leaders, and the board have all been very involved in initiating workshops and presentations on diversity, equity, enclusion (DEI) and anti-racism and Indigenous education. In mid-April, a group of four students from Dakota Collegiate gave the board a presentation on their experiences with racism. Student voices are essential if we truly wish to understand their concerns.
DEI and anti-racism and Indigenous education were also the focus of a recent community town hall hosted by the Board on April 26. There is a lot of great work happening in both of these areas and the board looks forward to future presentations.
The community town hall also highlighted electoral ward boundary changes. You can watch a full recording of the town hall on LRSD’s YouTube channel, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVPEw9R4oNI
