Hey there, time traveller!

Many of my constituents have requested information for seniors’ services in Winnipeg. As my constituency has the largest population of seniors in Manitoba, I would like to provide this valuable public information should some of our seniors not have easy access to the internet:

Age and Opportunity Winnipeg has been providing services to older adults for 65 years and assists seniors with home care, rental assistance, health services, home maintenance, legal affairs, ERIK (Emergency Response Information Kits) and elder abuse prevention services. For information about their programming and services please visit their website at www.aosupportservices.ca or call the downtown location at 204-946-5667.

The St. James-Assiniboia 55+ Centre provides a wealth of services and activities for seniors in the community. Their mission is to improve the quality of life for seniors by providing educational, recreational, health and social opportunities. Visit their website to view their newsletters at www.stjamescentre.com or call at 204-987-8850 for information about programming.

Protection for Persons in Care Office is a provincial government office. The Seniors Abuse Support Line is a 24-hour call line for information and offers confidential counselling for those who need to discuss their concerns. Visit their website at www.seniorsabusesupport.ca or call toll-free at 1-888-896-7183.

The Block Parent Program of Winnipeg is a network of police-screened easily recognizable, safe homes that members of the community (older and younger) can go in case of emergency. For information, please see their website at www.blockparent.ca or call for information at 204-467-9752.

I was very pleased and proud to attend the in-person graduation ceremonies for the two high schools in my constituency and provide two graduating students with the Assiniboia MLA scholarship.

Recipients Kiera Robinson, from John Taylor Collegiate, and Bello Blacksmith, from Collège Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, met the scholarship criteria as students who helped their peers address personal challenges.

Congratulations to Kiera and Bello and their fellow classmates on their scholastic achievements. I wish the graduating class of 2022 all the best on this new path that life is taking you, your future is bright.

Enjoy the summer!
