October has been a very exciting month for the Southdale Constituency. Thank you to all the Southdale constituency residents who attended my nomination meeting. I look forward to being your Progressive Conservative candidate for the 2023 provincial election. I am humbled and honoured to represent this hardworking and dedicated community and I will continue to advocate and work alongside community members.
October was also a time for giving back to the community. Every year since 2018, Main Street Project has collected socks for people who are homeless through its Socktober sock drive. As the weather cools down, hands and feet tend to get cold more quickly than the body, and people who are homeless are incredibly vulnerable to frostbite. Access to clean socks to keep their feet warm is essential. Collecting socks is no small task, but Ms. Wakeman’s Grade 4/5 class at General Vanier School in Windsor Park answered the call. This year, the students, with support from the local community, collected 546 pairs of socks for Socktober. GymKyds families also collected over 900 pairs of socks. I was pleased to support this initiative and commend both groups for their efforts to give back to the broader community.
I also want to highlight Cornerstone Alliance Church’s The Wardrobe program, which provides free clothing for the whole family, especially for children and babies. This is also an important local program as we approach the winter months. The food bank at this church and the one at St. Bartholomew Anglican Church continue to collaborate to provide healthy food to individuals and families in need. Thank you to all the residents who contribute to my annual doorstep food drive event which helps to supply our two local food banks with nutritious and culturally appropriate foods to redistribute.
