After years of advocating for a new Louis Riel School Division K-8 school in Sage Creek, I can proudly say that it is definitely becoming a reality. I was pleased to announce this, with members of our community, at the future site of the school, which will be constructed adjacent to the roundabout where Warde Avenue meets Des Hivernants Boulevard.

Design plans for the new, French-immersion, kindergarten to Grade 8 school were unveiled to the public at an open design-plan consultation on Feb. 6, at the École Sage Creek School gymnasium. The consultation conveyed more information about the project, including design details, proposed layouts and tentative construction plans.

The approximately 93,000-sq. ft. school will serve French immersion students living in the Sage Creek and Bonavista neighbourhoods. The same will be the case for non-immersion students, as the existing École Sage Creek School will become an English-only school upon completion of the new immersion school. As part of the Manitoba government’s ongoing commitment to expand access to inclusive and affordable child care, the project also includes the construction of a 74-space child-care facility that will be attached to the school, delivering much-needed child care spaces to our community.

Construction will begin this spring.

Construction is expected to commence as soon as the ground thaws later this spring — a day I can hardly wait for. Construction will also commence soon on the Division Scolaire Franco-Manitobaine K-8 school, meaning two new schools will soon be built in Sage Creek. I made a promise to you, and that promise is being delivered.
