Hey there, time traveller!

Luke Anseeuw, of Oak Bluff, and his bandmates in The Project are practising their tunes ahead of a performance at the Hot Blizzard Folk Festival on Sat., Feb. 4.
The Project is one of the acts that will appear at the one-day event held by the Portage la Prairie Folk Festival Association in Trinity United Church (15 Tupper St. S) in Portage starting at 1 p.m.
Anseeuw, 24, who plays bass and lead guitar and sings, said he’s excited about performing at the festival along with musicians from Portage and Winnipeg, as well as Montreal Celtic folk group Astheur.
"This will be the first time I’ve been to the festival." he said, adding that he and bandmates Brad Turner, from St. Norbert, Jon Brooke, from Morden, and Colin Hay, from Carman will also be leading the open circle fun jam that is open to any audience members who want to join in and make music.
Anseeuw comes by his musical talent naturally as his mother, Michelle sings with her band The InClines in a popular show "Sweet Dreams of Patsy Cline". He said he’s inspired by his mom and other family members as music played a big role within his mom’s family.
"They always liked to pull out the guitars and fiddlers at family gatherings."
He met his current band’s members over the past few years and they’ve played shows in Winnipeg and in rural communities including a gig at the recently-closed Brunkild Hotel.
Anseeuw categorizes The Project’s music as blues, folk and rock, but said they are gradually playing fewer cover songs and more music written by Turner and Brooke, who originally started performing as the J.B. Project, which evolved into The Project.
Anseeuw said the band has also started recording and he looks forward to doing more in this area.
"We’re definitely dipping our feet in that."
